Zheng Shan Xiao Zhong (正山小种), meaning "Original Mountain Small Varietal," refers both to Tongmu Guan as its birthplace and to the small-leaf Wuyi tea cultivar used to craft this historic tea. With a history spanning over 400 years, this style of traditionally smoked Lapsang Souchong is considered the earliest form of black tea and was once favored by the British royal family.会员笔记 11 条

Loved the last of this smokey, sweet and cooling licorice flavors. Hope for more someday!
I accidentally closed out of the app before sharing my sip so this is a duplicate post of one session.
This is another very pretty orange tea. The taste reminds me strongly of dry rub and smoke. It is sweet. The flavor is very consistent.
Very consistent
Delicious and smoky black tea. Great with sweets.

Delicious and smoky black tea. Great with sweets. Nice session to start the workday. I love basically any smoked tea, ao this was also delightful and it worked really well with my cinnamon sugar donuts. Started to taste more woody in the third infusion, but still smoky and it lingered on the tongue.
I will order more of this tea. It’s got a real savory creamy salty smoke and sweet tomato vine. Overall just very rich thick and warming tea

I will order more of this tea. It’s got a real savory creamy salty smoke and sweet tomato vine. Overall just very rich thick and warming tea I’ve come back to this tea again for its savory creamy and warming flavors. Salt, butter, smoke, tomato vine. It’s really perfect for a cold winter morning. Paired it with a persimmon today but it would go really well with hot oatmeal in the morning too.
Smoky and sweet. Interesting blend of flavors.

Smoky and sweet. Interesting blend of flavors. Enjoyed this smokey tea with the teapals (and my sister) today. I always love smokey teas so this was a real treat.
Enjoying my first caffeinated tea in over a month with the tea club. I’m not sure my tastebuds are working yet but Such a pleasure to enjoy a cup with friends

Eyes - Dry Leaf: brown and red twisted leaves with a greenish hue Nose - Dry Leaf: charred pinewood and dried cherrywood Nose - Wet Leaf: charred pinewood and grilled asparagus/squash Eyes - Liquor: medium-thick, light orange liquor Mouth - Texture: thin-to-medium and silky, with a vaporous quality Mouth - Taste: charred woods and steamed sweet potatoes Mouth - Finish: vaporous and juicy in the cheeks, with a slight dryness and a distinctly woody flavor Nose - Empty Cup: charred wood Eyes - Wet Leaf: Body - Sensation: heating and alert Not shockingly complex (as to be expected from this style of tea), but a very high quality smoked ZSXZ
Compared smoked and unsmoked ZSXZ. I liked this more than I thought I would! Pic is round 3.

Mei Zhan cultivar is originally from Fujian province, but it has been grown in Ya’an for decades, where the famous Mengding teas come from. Some tea producers there have been experimenting with this cultivar to make black teas, visiting Fujian to learn about their processing techniques.会员笔记 9 条

Casual brewing with grandpa style. It’s getting colder in Chengdu, and this fruity tea warms me up.
Top black, very fragant with long hui gan.
Brewing instructions from Vincent are accurate to prepair a magnificent black Jin Jun Mei tea. Definitely worth buying it again.
Another JJM! I love comparing these teas, and I love JJM in general! The leaves are a lovely dark brown. The liquid is golden and amber from the first steep.

Another JJM! I love comparing these teas, and I love JJM in general! The leaves are a lovely dark brown. The liquid is golden and amber from the first steep. Rose and rose hips come through the strongest, but there are also fruity, mineral, and spiced notes that peak and ebb across steeps. It's incredibly long lasting.
Very good Could have gone much longer with this tea Smooth and long lasting

The name Zheng Shan Xiao Zhong literally means "Original Mountain Small Varietal", referring to the Tongmu Guan of the Tongmu village and the small leaf varietal used to produce this tea. It is sometimes referred to as the unsmoked version of Lapsang Souchong.会员笔记 14 条

Fruity sweet, licorice, menthol, chocolate, nutty, grains. Love this one Revisiting this tongmu Zhang Shan xiao zhong. Super yumm! Perfect tea for early spring before my body is ready for the greens. Warming, sweet, relaxing, but hopeful like experiencing the buds coming on the trees.
This is a very pretty tea! It's a dark golden. The aroma is fruity and sweet potato. The taste is sweet potato, hints of tropical fruit, and mineral.

Nutty & fruity. Mouth sensations dry to oily & juicey. an amber liquor with a fruity tea liquor aroma. The taste has fruity: melon & citrus notes and a very long savory finish & mineral tannins. The leaves are a beautiful long & twisted. Infusions have a lovely textural complexity and minerality. Leaves the mouth with sensation it will be dry but then quickly goes honey sweet, juicy and oily. An incredibly long finish on this black tea & it has me wondering why I tend not to gong fu brew black/reds! Absolutely delightful & I can’t wait to taste the others from this July ‘22 Club. It has opened my eyes (and taste buds) to the joy of black teas other than my customary southern roots of pouring over ice and adding lots of sugar to the cup.
Revisiting this July Tongmu ZSXZ. Just right for this bright but cold day. Sweet and warming

A very pleasant tea. Nice large leaves and lovely floral flavor with a hint of salt. A kind of calming tea.

Still have to go light on the caffeine but wanted a bit of sweet black tea. Just a small gram, but delicious

We were going through Christian's old tea stash and realized I never did this one with him! Hopefully it's not stale by this point. I love the aftertaste of this tea.

We were going through Christian's old tea stash and realized I never did this one with him! Hopefully it's not stale by this point. I love the aftertaste of this tea. It's very fruity with some nice honey sweetness. The main flavor is sweet potato, which I'm never the biggest fan of. The flavor had nice shifts in balance between steeps to keep things interesting.
Very interesting tea. Getting fruity and nutty notes on top of the tea flavor. The tea leaves look beautiful. Immediate impact of caffeine in the head, chest and arms.

Very interesting tea. Getting fruity and nutty notes on top of the tea flavor. The tea leaves look beautiful. Immediate impact of caffeine in the head, chest and arms. Lovely session with the club again. Interesting conversation about clay pots and cups while we drank this lovely Guan Yin Red. One thing I noticed about this tea was that the caffeine affected me almost immediately, settling in my face, chest, and shoulders. I had to have more food even though I had just finished breakfast. That is something to note for me—always make sure to have a snack nearby when drinking this tea!
A very interesting tea. Very fruity wet leaves, but liquid is oily, viscous macadamia nuts, with a hint of banana. Drying in the mouth Qi is upper body
Bright gold liquor, malty pleasant fragrance, not sweet taste (but maybe I lost a bit of sense of taste due to ongoing COVID symptoms) 😅

Still new to figuring out what I like in terms of aged teas but I enjoyed a lot of steeps from this one. Maybe one day I'll be able to list out the flavors I taste.
Really enjoyable tea!
Day two for this Tan Yang Gonfu sample. Might consider adding a larger amount to my drinking stash as a nice reliable winter black. ♥️
Nice black soft and sweet for the cooler mornings. Light mineral and lots of fruit.

Nice black soft and sweet for the cooler mornings. Light mineral and lots of fruit. Nice gentle black with loads of sweet and apricot and peach honey tones. Still not sure about my tastebuds since everything seems to have a cream taste, but regardless, I enjoyed this as the weather is getting cooler.
Excellent tea! Really enjoyed it

Calming, warming With the metallic taste left from C*vid (stll!), black and puErs seems to be what I can taste. This one, to my off palette, was enjoyable: warming, sweet, milk/butter, a little tomato vine too. Calming.
Very lovely tea. Not too overwhelming. Quite mellow in flavor but with a little something there.

The leaves are a gorgeous deep brown, and the liquid is an amber gold. This tea has less scruff than some of the others. The aroma and flavor are almost pure sweet potato. It's shockingly consistent!
