This 2016 Autumn Harvest Shou Mei was picked in mid-September, during the second most common harvest season for Fuding white tea. While spring-harvested white teas are often more sought after, autumn-harvested teas develop a distinctive aroma and flavor profile with a richer body, and they are typically more accessible in price.会员笔记 15 条

"I'm not a white tea person"... And then came this tea.

A very nice sweet tea, probably the best white tea I’ve ever tasted. I wish I knew how to treat the cake with more respect, but I don’t, so I’m aware I didn’t get from this tea as much as I otherwise could. I completely forgot to post this log, it’s been *that* kind of week.
Brewing this tea again in a new teapot - rotating gaiwan with a built-in strainer and wood handle (good to avoid getting burnt from hot gaiwan).
Overnight cold brew! The color is golden. The aroma is mild but sweet. The taste is a bit washed out, but berries are still present, especially in the aftertaste.

Overnight cold brew! The color is golden. The aroma is mild but sweet. The taste is a bit washed out, but berries are still present, especially in the aftertaste. There's also some mineral, but it fades to honey sweetness. It would probably be better if I hadn't already put the leaves through 14 infusions! As is, it's impressive how much flavor it does still have.
Emily: So warm and cozy, buttery, brown sugary goodness! Tastes what I’d imagine butterbeer would taste like. Joe: Very gentle and delicious white tea!

Emily: So warm and cozy, buttery, brown sugary goodness! Tastes what I’d imagine butterbeer would taste like. Joe: Very gentle and delicious white tea! Took a moment to find the right words, but Emily landed on buttery, which I agree, but would also add hops/ barley and hay. First ever tea pal subscription tasting with my beloved.
This is still a very good, long-lasting tea! It was much less herbal this time and more consistently like a dessert tea.
Trying first of the Aged White Teas club. I really enjoyed it, let's see if different teas from this month are better than this one.
This tea held up better than the aged bai mu dan! It was primarily sweet berries all the way through. Christian and I agreed this is a good example of why aged white teas are one of our favorites.
No in depth notes this time, but a lovely tea. Lots of fruit, sugarcane, and green notes. Prominent green banana, rhubarb, and sugarcane. Delicious.
First session with my tea pal group, lots of fun with tea friends. Delicious tea!!

0 TDS distilled water with TeaCurious Autumn recipe to make 110 TDS water. Very good tea. A bit darker flavor than the Spring 2018 Aged Shou Mei from a previous club month, but very similar. Raspberry notes strong, but this is a bit richer with dried cherry notes too, and less floral notes. This tea also has more dryness than the Spring tea. Rating Criteria: 0.5 - bad, flavorless, or worse very astringent, teabag 1.0 - mostly bad, flavorless, most teabag tea 1.5 - not good, but maybe something to like 2.0 - slightly disappointed, not my kind of tea, but still can appreciate it - probably the worst rating I would give a loose leaf tea (at least one that hasn't turned bad) 2.5 - mixed feelings, like it, but there is something off about it I don't like 3.0 - good, I like it but nothing stand out about it or a very good tea with one critique that holds me back - probably the highest I would give a teabag tea 3.5 - very good, a tea that I was very happy to have but content with what I had, wouldn't seek it out for additional purchase 4.0 - great, very happy with the experience, would seek out for purchase, but only occasionally 4.5 - a favorite, one I love and want very often 5.0 - life will be very sad without it, reserved only for my favorites (roasted Tie Guan Yin & Dancong Red), room for more hopefully Very similar to the Spring 2018 Aged Shou Mei from a previous club month, but with some slightly darker flavors. Delicious!

After a while without drinking this tea, I always ask myself: why do I always do 6.2 grams instead of 7.5 as I should for this teapot? And then I start weighing it, and I remember: the leaves take up so much space that 6.2 grams is the maximum this teapot can comfortably fit! 🤣🤣🤣(This is the unglazed teapot I have dedicated to whites, if you’re wondering why I don’t just change teapot.) The other recurring question is whether I will still like this tea. I have expanded my white knowledge since first drinking it, and my taste buds have changed as well, so I’m always fearful I’m going to grow out of it. But so far it hasn’t happened; this tea is just perfectly balanced for my taste, it’s honey and fruit and sweet enough to entice me without becoming cloying. So glad I can drink it regularly.
My mom loved this tea and how many steeps we got out of it! It's a birthday treat for her, so I'm glad we had so much fun with it.

My mom loved this tea and how many steeps we got out of it! It's a birthday treat for her, so I'm glad we had so much fun with it. This is the longest I've ever seen her keep getting seconds from a tea; she usually eventually only tries a sip and then lets me have the rest, but she kept drinking this until the end.
I love this tea, the infusions that are honey and berries are awesome. This time I noticed a new note in the later infusions that I can’t quite place. A most delicious and interesting tea, in short.

I’m generally not very fond of whites, but I found this to be quite delicious!
Loved this tea! I found the astringency to not show up if I steep at 200°F versus 212°F.

Loved this tea! I found the astringency to not show up if I steep at 200°F versus 212°F. After a not-great experience a few months back trying a session with a silver needle white, I’m excited to say that I’m having great success with the whites that Vincent has picked! 🥳
I really enjoyed this. To me it started out sweet, a few infusions in became more herbaceous. Lots of infusions with this tea. Delightful

Third tea from the white teas. I think I liked the two compressed teas which I brewed before more, but I can't surely tell. I enjoyed all Aged White teas so far.
The first few steeps were a bit bitter and woody for me, but then it settled into berry sweetness!

This tea comes from old tea trees over 40 years old in Guanyang Town, a renowned micro-region in Fuding, known for producing some of the highest quality white teas. The leaves were harvested in spring 2016, following the one bud, two leaves picking standard of second-grade Bai Mu Dan.会员笔记 16 条

Very interesting session in the park today. Just going by feeling since we had no service. Ended up having to push this Bai Mu Dan to really long steeps because my gaiwan was too small.

Very nice tea. The first time I actually tasted marzipan in tea! 😊🍵
Drinking this up!
I like the taste of this tea, but it’s too mild for me.
Very lovely tea…sweet, fragrant, not overpowering.

Very lovely tea…sweet, fragrant, not overpowering. I’m really enjoying learning about white teas. This one was elegant and sweet. I could have continued the steeps but had to go pick out new flooring with my husband, so I am using the leaves for a cold brew overnight. The packet only had 4gm instead of 5gm but it seemed to be enough.

Eyes - Dry Leaf: compressed leaves with clearly defined, plump, hairy buds Nose - Dry Leaf: ripe stone fruits, marzipan, honey, spices, and a little bit of slate Nose - Wet Leaf: complex, with notes of sage and cinnamon over warm stone and floral honey Eyes - Liquor: pale yellow with lots of trichomes. Becomes a deeper golden yellow in the second infusion. Mouth - Texture: medium expanding to medium-thick and oily Mouth - Taste: sweet and soft with honeyed notes and marzipan in the mouth and a soft but pungent floral aroma in the nose Mouth - Finish: complex orchid/vanilla and sage aromatics with honey undertones Nose - Empty Cup: complex, with notes of honey, vanilla, sage, and warm, wet stones Eyes - Wet Leaf: small, tender leaves and buds, with browning and reddening from oxidation over time Body - Sensation: relaxed and heightened sensation which grounds the body and puts both the body and mind at ease. Becomes quite literally stoning in later infusions. Super complex florality and spice and very aromatic and sweet, this was arguably the most complex and interesting offering this month. The grade definitely alters the effect on the body and mind as well as adding more depth of texture and flavor/aroma. I am quite literally struggling to pour it right now because of its potent effect. Incredible tea. A wonderful tea session last night, dedicated to a stunning and complex tea. Very happy with this experience 😁
This aged Bai Mu Dan suited me very well. Long steeps brought out linden leaf, honey, marzipan, and even hibiscus.

Good tea, but wouldn’t seek it out. Doesn’t have nearly as many notes as the Aged Shou Mei did.
Second tea from the white teas. I chose the second cake compressed tea. I can't tell if Aged Shou Mei is better than this one or if Bai Mu Dan is better, so rating both teas with 4,5 stars.

My lower score of this tea does not mean I do not like it, its just compared to the aged Shou mei this ranks lower for me. Smooth, silky & thick infusion. Warm, cold sweat body sensation. Another wonderful MYPClub virtual tasting session! As reccomended, I am going to take these leaves and boil them to extract a brew for tomorrow. Happy Weekend everyone!
Delightful Bai Mu Dan. I think aging has greatly improved it; I’m usually iffy on Bai Mu Dans but this was amazing.

Delightful Bai Mu Dan. I think aging has greatly improved it; I’m usually iffy on Bai Mu Dans but this was amazing. A lobely session today with the TeaPals. Very impressed with this Aged Bai Mu Dan. Used the full brick in my tea pot with about 120mls of water; I’m thinking next time I will use it in one of my gaiwans and reduce the water. It has a lovely honey floral taste, but I think I’d like to make it stronger.
Very nice tea. Steeps 2 & 3 were a bit odd, having a very different aroma and flavor profile that I struggled to pinpoint anything. For the most part I got strong dried cherry aroma and flavor.

Unexpected, but quite nice aged white!! Totally different than I expected, it started vegetal and then became woodsy, which considering the dry leaves smelled of honey was very unexpected.

Wild big grandpa style. Starting with 2.3 grams in. Ended up with several infusions adding about another 2.5 along the way. Filled up once more with cold water and let sit over night for a cold brew.

Notes of licorice bark and sugar that later turn into banana pudding. Lots of minerality that is earth/soil tasting and qi that is calming and a little heady and opening the emotions to feel a little tender and open. Good for writing poetry to. The flavor holds and holds. 💗
