In Chengdun Village, nestled near Wuyishan National Park, certain high mountain areas yield a winter harvest of rock tea, in addition to the traditional spring harvest. This winter rock tea is meticulously harvested during the autumn months, typically commencing in mid-October and concluding by late October.会员笔记 9 条

Finishing off last year's MyTeaPal rock teas with my favorite of the bunch, their Rou Gui.
Vincent told me this year's rock teas are nicer than this batch from last year, but this Dong Pian Rou Gui from last year IS actually very good.
Nice morning session. Vincent’s tip (first infusions only a few seconds) was spot on. Otherwise it might be to strong or simply to much. 😊 Now it was nice.

I ♥️ rock teas😃
Great aroma with strong blackberry notes. Strong mineral and roasted flavor with lingering dryness.

0 TDS distilled water with TeaCurious Original recipe to make 50 TDS water. Great aroma with strong blackberry notes. Strong mineral and roasted flavor with lingering dryness. Rating Criteria: 0.5 - bad, flavorless, or worse very astringent, teabag 1.0 - mostly bad, flavorless, most teabag tea 1.5 - not good, but maybe something to like 2.0 - slightly disappointed, not my kind of tea, but still can appreciate it - probably the worst rating I would give a loose leaf tea (at least one that hasn't turned bad) 2.5 - mixed feelings, like it, but there is something off about it I don't like 3.0 - good, I like it but nothing stand out about it or a very good tea with one critique that holds me back - probably the highest I would give a teabag tea 3.5 - very good, a tea that I was very happy to have but content with what I had, wouldn't seek it out for additional purchase 4.0 - great, very happy with the experience, would seek out for purchase, but only occasionally 4.5 - a favorite, one I love and want very often 5.0 - life will be very sad without it, reserved only for my favorites (roasted Tie Guan Yin & Dancong Red), room for more hopefully

Eyes - Dry Leaf: deep purple-red brown leaves Nose - Dry Leaf: cherry, cassia, and pine charcoal Nose - Wet Leaf: cassia, hot rocks, blackberry, and burnt wood Eyes - Liquor: cloudy golden-orange liquor with a blood orange secondary hue Mouth - Texture: medium, oily, and smooth Mouth - Taste: soft minerality and charred woody taste leading to a fruity/spicy aroma of Chinese cinnamon (cassia) and cherry, with a hint of blackberry Mouth - Finish: hint of spice and fruit with a dry to juicy finish and a soft mineral tingle Nose - Empty Cup: cassia and tart cherry Eyes - Wet Leaf: brown, course-textured leaves with red and green hues Body - Sensation: relaxed and enlivened, with a laidback and happy feeling A nice tea session that I had to cut short due to an empty stomach. Absolutely delicious!
I liked the 2 previously brewed tea more than this one. This one is less sweet and more roasted.

More vintage teas from the MyTeaPal club, a very nice Dong Pian Shui Xian from last year.
Fujian rock tea from the Feb 2024 MyTeaPal Club, a very nice Shui Xian.
Nice moderately floral tea, not something I would ever buy for myself, but it was quite pleasant to drink.
No picture, just notes from the meeting :)
Very scruffy tea! It's good though. Plums, melon, and baked goods with maybe light floral notes. I expected it to be mellow, but it's actually much stronger than the first two teas we had.
Very nice aroma. Flavor was a bit lacking, but very nice floral. Great mouth feel.

Wow! Super yummy rock tea this month! Honeysuckle, fruit, pebbles, light roast, snd very nice pez candy returning sweetness.
I enjoyed this one too but the tea I had tomorrow was less roasted and more sweet, on the other hand this one is more fruity/floral. I am giving same amount of stars.

Da Wu Ye (大乌叶), translating to "Big Dark Leaf" in Chinese, refers to a cultivar known for its larger and darker green leaves compared to other Dancong varieties. Originating from the Shangjiao village of Fenghuang town and bred in the 1950s, this particular tea comes directly from its birthplace.会员笔记 6 条

Very, very, very delicious! No time to write down notes, but loved it.
This is my kind of tea! Love it! 😊🍵😋
Buttery and floral. Dry mouth feel and minerality. Very similar experience to previous Da Wu Ye in the club box.

Eyes - Dry Leaf: large, black leaves, with striking, lengthwise lime-green and gold striations Nose - Dry Leaf: cream, roast nuts, and flowers (orchid) Nose - Wet Leaf: stony minerality with beautifully fragrant notes of flowers and fruit and a bright butteriness. Bright, somewhat green freshness. Eyes - Liquor: milky beige Mouth - Texture: creamy and expansive Mouth - Taste: milky and round, with a beautiful floral fragrance. Stony minerality common to Dan Cong oolongs. Mouth - Finish: round and expansive leading to dry and juicy. Bright floral fragrance and creamy taste. Nose - Empty Cup: floral bouquet and cane sugar, with a brown butter nuttiness Eyes - Wet Leaf: very large, olive green leaves with patches of reddish oxidative discoloration along the edges Body - Sensation: alert, happy, and bright, with a slight background stoning sensation Just got this month’s package!
Enjoyed this tea, I haven't drunk a Dancong tea before so I can't compare it. But I like it more than typical smoky Phoenix rock oolongs, in this tea there are only hints of roasted taste.

Getting down to the last of these "vintage" rock teas from last year's MyTeaPal club.
A bit of backlog from the MyTeaPal club, this very pleasant rock tea is from February, 2024.
Nice rock oolong. I just wonder if it’s been lying around for too long. After the fourth infusion it was done.
Been looking forward to having tea in Scotland due to the soft water. The yancha's mineral notes are muted and instead a woodiness is more prominent in these first two infusions.

Eyes - Dry Leaf: long, twisted, dark purplish-red leaves with russet and green tones Nose - Dry Leaf: starfruit/underripe banana and toasted nuts (pumpkin seed?) with a milk chocolate/white chocolate sweetness Nose - Wet Leaf: pine charcoal, white chocolate, and green banana, with a hint of spice Eyes - Liquor: golden amber, semi-viscous liquor Mouth - Texture: medium, oily, and lubricating Mouth - Taste: sweet, with notes of pine charcoal leading to a soft white chocolate sweetness and a tropical fruitiness (green banana and starfruit) Mouth - Finish: white chocolate sweetness with a lasting green apple aroma. Classic dry to juicy with a lasting oily texture. Nose - Empty Cup: vanilla/white chocolate and spiced fruits Eyes - Wet Leaf: medium to large, mid-grade (typical for an oolong, rough textured) green and reddish-purple-brown leaves Body - Sensation: grounded and settled, with an easy sleepy/poetic mindset This one was something spectacular and had some very unique notes for a DHP. A win for me!
I liked this much better than the June 2023 Da Hong Pao. The roasted note is much more subtle, and it’s quite pleasant to drink. Not my type of tea, but I enjoyed drinking it.
Very pleasurable tea! Delicious, mellow sweetness with savory roasted nut and charcoal flavor, but not overwhelming. Fantastic mouth feel too.

Incredibly well balanced sweet and savory notes. Delicious!
I liked Big Red Robe from last year's club with Rock oolongs theme more than this autumn harvest.
