It felt very consistent over the steeping resulting in a boring session. Not much complexity behind the roasted notes.
Started off liking this a lot, but my interest lowered as I had more. Smoothest of the four offerings this month, but fairly one-note throughout.

0 TDS distilled water with TeaCurious Original recipe to make 50 TDS water. Started off liking this a lot, but my interest lowered as I had more. Smoothest of the four offerings this month, but fairly one-note throughout. Rating Criteria: 0.5 - bad, flavorless, or worse very astringent, teabag 1.0 - mostly bad, flavorless, most teabag tea 1.5 - not good, but maybe something to like 2.0 - slightly disappointed, not my kind of tea, but still can appreciate it - probably the worst rating I would give a loose leaf tea (at least one that hasn't turned bad) 2.5 - mixed feelings, like it, but there is something off about it I don't like 3.0 - good, I like it but nothing stand out about it or a very good tea with one critique that holds me back - probably the highest I would give a teabag tea 3.5 - very good, a tea that I was very happy to have but content with what I had, wouldn't seek it out for additional purchase 4.0 - great, very happy with the experience, would seek out for purchase, but only occasionally 4.5 - a favorite, one I love and want very often 5.0 - life will be very sad without it, reserved only for my favorites (roasted Tie Guan Yin & Dancong Red), room for more hopefully

Eyes - Dry Leaf: purplish brown twisted leaves Nose - Dry Leaf: charred wood, raisin, and cinnamon Nose - Wet Leaf: charcoal and used coffee grounds Eyes - Liquor: deep reddish-amber liquor Mouth - Texture: medium thick with a coating, oily texture Mouth - Taste: meaty and warm at first, with a charcoal baked quality, giving way to a vanilla sweetness and a fruity floral fragrance. Pleasant minerality in the finish. Mouth - Finish: dry to juicy with a pleasant mineral juicy tingle Nose - Empty Cup: caramel and vanilla Eyes - Wet Leaf: deep olive-brown, almost black leaves Body - Sensation: super relaxed and laidback, with a sleepy sensation Warm and comforting, I’ll keep going with this a little longer.
Really enjoyed this one with the club virtually. The roast made for a wonderful session on this colder inbound autumn morning.

Really nice red fruit/dried fruit flavor, with a chocolate toasty note coming forward in later brews.
It's good but fades very quickly.
I loved the smell of this tea from the second infusion on, and when the fruity note was present it was quite enjoyable. I’m still not a fan of roasted teas, though, so I can’t appreciate this fully.

Huang Mei Gui (黄玫瑰), meaning "Yellow Rose," is a relatively new yet highly prized cultivar in the Wuyi rock tea family. Developed by the Fujian Academy of Agricultural Sciences through cross-breeding Huang Guan Yin and Huang Dan between 1986 and 1999, it was officially recognized as a national tea variety in 2010.会员笔记 6 条

Very generic wuyi rock tea, i can't say i like it.. This varietal is supposed to have roses aroma but i could only find faint trace of flower. To my taste this tea is too much roasted leaving to a loss in aroma of the tea leaves. Lots of cafeine
Late night comfort tea resumes. I know this tea isn't really supposed to be brewed this way, but it works! It's distracting me from post-vaccine body aches very well!

0 TDS distilled water with TeaCurious Autumn recipe to make 115 TDS water. A very consistent tea. It was ok, but not my favorite Rock Tea. It kind of lacked direction for me - not very sweet, not very floral, only the slightest nuttiness, and mineral dry mouth feel. Just ok. The aroma was probably the best thing about it.

Eyes - Dry Leaf: chalky, dark green-and-red-brown twisted leaves with a vaguely purplish tone Nose - Dry Leaf: raisins, flowers, and toasted nuts, with a distinct fruitiness Nose - Wet Leaf: deep woods/charcoal baked goods, with chocolate and craisins (dried cranberry). Minerality on the lid. Eyes - Liquor: deep honey amber Mouth - Texture: medium-thick, round, and lush Mouth - Taste: immediate chocolate and honey sweetness in the start which moves to a dried fruit (raisin) and floral finish. Roast is not overbearing and enhances the flavor. Mouth - Finish: strong dried fruit/floral aroma. Dry mineral tingle which leads to an expansive juiciness in the cheeks. Nose - Empty Cup: fragrant dried woods/charcoal and chocolate cover dried fruits Eyes - Wet Leaf: deep, almost black leaves with reddish and forest/olive green patches Body - Sensation: drunken/stoned feeling in the head and thoroughly relaxed My tasting notes from last night! 😁🍵 Deliciously balanced tea with a bright fragrance and an amazing minerality. Dried fruits, wood, chocolate, and stone.

This was a great toasty dark experience Hung out at the virtual tea meetup and a bunch of us jumped into the Huang Mei Gui for this month’s club. I really enjoyed this one even if I lost track of my steeps. It was a great exeperience in tea and friendship.

Strong floral/orchid aroma and flavor. Very dark cocoa flavor that gets a bit sweeter later on. Very late steeps are very floral.

This probably isn't a tea you're supposed to do Western brew, but I was awake at 2am finishing up work, and I decided I value my mental health more than my sleep at the moment.

Eyes - Dry Leaf: twisted, chalky, raisin-brown leaves Nose - Dry Leaf: dark chocolate, charcoal, and slightly overbaked pastries Nose - Wet Leaf: warm charcoal and biscuits with dark chocolate Eyes - Liquor: deep amber liquor with a golden undertone Mouth - Texture: thick, oily, and textured from minerals Mouth - Taste: thick minerality with a cocoa sweetness accompanied by dried wood and overbaked biscuits, leading to a dried fruit finish (fig, raisin). Strong orchid aroma if allowed to cool. Mouth - Finish: dried fruit sweetness with an expansive mineral juiciness on the tongue and in the cheeks Nose - Empty Cup: shaved chocolate and fresh caramel straight from the processing line at Hammond’s Candies Eyes - Wet Leaf: brown leaves with reddish and olive hues Body - Sensation: relaxed, almost stoned sensation A rare addendum, after a certain note became very prominent after leaving to infuse overnight. In the cooled liquor, orchid is not only prevalent, but predominant. Did not expect such a strong florality from something of this level of roast.

Perfect warmth and aroma on this night. Really loving this one.
Really nice fragrance, but more roasty/charcoal forward than I tend to prefer.

Qi Zhong (奇种), also known as Cai Cha (菜茶), refers to a diverse family of seed-grown tea plants native to the Wuyi Mountains. Unlike single varieties, Qi Zhong represents the original population of wild tea trees that reproduce through natural pollination, resulting in unique characteristics for each individual plant.会员笔记 7 条

A calmer rock tea that was difficult to understand. Well balanced and great but nothing major stood out. Enjoyable session with the club this morning. This was a very pleasant and enjoyable tea although being wild grown it was harder to understand the notes as it hasn’t been cultivated to pull specific notes. It was a good experience and feel.
Robust, roasted tea. Very nice mouth feel, but nothing too exciting on the flavor end.

Yancha is my favorite tea type. You could safely assume I was very much looking forward to this month's tea. So I went all out, and hosted a little ceremony with my friends who own a tea salon in Barcelona. Important to say she is from Fujian and has been drinking oolong all her life since her family owns a TGY garden. So the stakes were high, I had the harshest critics with me and, despite all of it, it was a success. The aroma was praised and the cooling jar was passed around with a smile: the glass was overcome with buttery, floral aroma reminiscent of jasmine and narcissus. The taste was very robust but underneath the roast, you could taste whew the sweet fruit nature of this tea: tropical fruit; banana, soursop, etc. And the mouthfeel was a rollercoaster. Aftertaste was sweet and numbing reminding me of Sichuan Peppercorns but with a creamy, buttery sensation. Thanks Vincent for this tea and the great morning it provided for me.

Eyes - Dry Leaf: raisin-brown twisted leaves Nose - Dry Leaf: raisins, charcoal-baked goods, and cocoa Nose - Wet Leaf: deep roasted quality, with toasted bread and charcoal and dark cocoa powder with a deep minerality. Dried cranberry fruitiness pierces through as the steam dissipates. Eyes - Liquor: honey amber liquor with a thick viscosity Mouth - Texture: thick and honey-like Mouth - Taste: immediate sweetness of honey, with complex notes of wood and minerals. Chocolate dancing along the tongue with a mineral tingle. Dried fruits and spices fill the nose in the finish. Mouth - Finish: honey and dried date aroma, with a thick, viscous sweetness and a dry-to-juicy mineral tingle Nose - Empty Cup: cocoa and honey, with a distinct warmth of freshly made, hot caramel candies Eyes - Wet Leaf: olive green and dark brown twisted and gnarled medium leaves with a sturdy composition Body - Sensation: slight digestif quality, with a sleepy, relaxed feeling Very balanced tea. Charcoal flavor is less prominent than I expected from smelling the leaf, the tea instead presenting a complex and layered profile. Excellent. Really tasty tea with depth and complexity, so far we’re two for two on excellent quality teas this month! Can’t wait to try the rest!!!
Too roasted for me! Maybe different brewing parameters would do better.
