Enjoying the last of the green tea from October tea club.
My mom likes a green! She was starting to avoid the whole category, so this was well-timed.
Yum
Nice green tea.

0 TDS distilled water with TeaCurious Spring recipe to make 50 TDS water. Nice green tea. Rating Criteria: 0.5 - bad, flavorless, or worse very astringent, teabag 1.0 - mostly bad, flavorless, most teabag tea 1.5 - not good, but maybe something to like 2.0 - slightly disappointed, not my kind of tea, but still can appreciate it - probably the worst rating I would give a loose leaf tea (at least one that hasn't turned bad) 2.5 - mixed feelings, like it, but there is something off about it I don't like 3.0 - good, I like it but nothing stand out about it or a very good tea with one critique that holds me back - probably the highest I would give a teabag tea 3.5 - very good, a tea that I was very happy to have but content with what I had, wouldn't seek it out for additional purchase 4.0 - great, very happy with the experience, would seek out for purchase, but only occasionally 4.5 - a favorite, one I love and want very often 5.0 - life will be very sad without it, reserved only for my favorites (roasted Tie Guan Yin & Dancong Red), room for more hopefully
Complex, changes a lot, easily gets bitter or astringent or grassy. Viscous, buttery, oily, lemon leaf. Not quite enough nuttiness or bread after the first steep.

Complex, changes a lot, easily gets bitter or astringent or grassy. Viscous, buttery, oily, lemon leaf. Not quite enough nuttiness or bread after the first steep. Almost as strong as gyokuro but missing the deep umami. Tried variations in steeping but felt it got too grassy for my liking after 4 steeps. I’ll try again with teapals but would say, less matetial is more. Maybe cold brew?
A very green tea morning for me today. Finished off the Zi Yang Mao Jian 鹿茶 (2024 Spring)
This was a bit unfair. Xinjiang Mao Jian is my favorite green tea. It has a great sentimental value as it was my first cup of tea that really showed me what tea could be.

This was a bit unfair. Xinjiang Mao Jian is my favorite green tea. It has a great sentimental value as it was my first cup of tea that really showed me what tea could be. I was heavily depressed, I had begun a leave from my work due to workplace harassment and I was afraid to leave the house. Bored and suicidal, bad combination, YouTube started recommending me tea content, which I watched bc I had nothing to do. I needed purpose to dare to go outside my home, and there was a Chinese tea salon in northern Barcelona. I had only tried a pu-ehr which honestly I didn't get, but I could give it another try. Armed with doubts and a spreadsheet of teas to try, for no fucking reason, I decided to go for the early spring Xinjiang. That cup changed my life. That cup kickstarted my tea journey. And that cup is the reason I'm among you today. This tea (yes, now we start the review) exhibits all the qualities of a good Mao Jiang. It's got a buttery aroma reminiscent of Danish cookies, milky rich taste with Vegetal notes. Predominantly artichoke. Remarkable fattiness in the mouthfeel, coating the tongue in a layer of oil that's almost buttery. Never bitter, but instead dancing the line between sweet and savory. Between dessert and umami. All of this to say: excellent tea. Not as good as the cup that changed my life, but good enough to remind me of it 😉
My first time with this tea was cold brew and today during the Tea Club event it is even better hot. This is close to a perfect tea for me and does very well hot or cold.

Nice green tea, fresh and sweet. I liked it more than the other green tea from shaanxi
Dry hot leaves: freshly baked warm bread, extremely pleasant warming smell Taste: bread, bubblegum, pepper, light umami and green notes Finish is super sweet.
Fantastic cold brewed as it is very fresh and light. The floral notes were sweet like melon and some umami and sweetness happening in the liquor.

Very interesting tea! I've never had a Golden Flower 🌼 Hei Chai before. And man, it was easy to see the mold on this tea. It was very colorful and pretty! It reminded me of my childhood when I'd go panning for gold in Colorado. You'd pan through piles of dirt to find these specks and small chunks of fool's gold. This fungus reminds me of the color of that fool's gold. One of the most beautiful teas to look at. When I was breaking the cake apart, this little cloud of dust went everywhere, like amI had just shook a flower branch and had cloud of pollen around me. It dusted the table, my hands, and the scale. So interesting, as I've never seen anything like this. Even as I rinsed the tea and did steep after steep, the Golden Flower particles didn't disappear m I figured they would dissolve in the water, but they don't! I have some pics and videos, and you can see the mold pollen floating in the tea and settling at the bottom of my cup! So cool!!!!!! Now, on to the taste of the tea! The wet tea smells very hay like to me. The 1st steep tasted slightly earthy and hay like, but not overpoweringly so. It had a sweetness to it also. The 2nd steep lost the earthy barnyard feel I had in the 1st steep and was mainly sweet and mellow and unique. It has a flavor I want to say is earthy, but it's not strong enough to be earthy lol. I liked it. The steels from then on were all sweet and mellow and just very enjoyable. As of now, I've made 7 steeps. The flavor is still going strong. The mold pollen is still all over the leaves. Very interesting tea! Doug liked it too :) I'd score this tea a 4.3 out of 5. Doug scored it 4.1 out of 5. This is without knowing the cost of the tea. We are going solely on flavor, looks, and # of steeps.
Interesting tea in both appearance and taste. Underlying spice flavor that I couldn't specify - kind of like cinnamon aftertaste but not really a cinnamon flavor.

I have had tea with golden flowers before and I liked this one too.
Dry hot leaves smells like freshly baked sweet bread with raisins. The sweetness of raisins and warmth is so strong, accompanied by a bit of pleasant funk.

The taste is licory sweet, herbal, calming, surprisingly light. It’s not easy to overbrew it, and I prefer longer steeping time than recommended.

I like this better Western brew, enough to bump up the rating from 2.5 stars to 3.
The first infusion was lovely, but I didn’t care much for the following ones. I think I will lower the temperature next time.
Only 3,8 in packet. First time this gaiwan. Leaf: fel groen. Lijkt op kleine sperziebonen Nose: very sweet. Almost fruity. Wet leaf1 nose: mais, umami, edamame Thick soft mouthfeell

I like this tea even though the taste profile isn't much strong. Getting lightly vegetal, floral tastes with almost any bitterness.

My teapot is a really awkward size for this, so we tried hard not to fill it up too much. This was a fun one. It was a bit mild, but the aftertaste was nice and very seasonal!
Very delicious tea. Fantastic mouth feel. Nice light sweetness on the early steeps that evolves into a darker sweetness and ends back on the lighter sweetness.

A very lovely experience that through all brews Absolutely loved this tea during tea club this morning. Very sweet and a rich smoothness that kept on giving and giving.
Enjoyable black tea with taste profile similar to Yunnan red/black teas.
