Qu Jiang Bao Pian (渠江薄片) is a historically significant Anhua dark tea, with records tracing back over a thousand years. Known for its distinctive thin, coin-like shape, this tea follows a specialized process that preserves the essence of traditional Anhua heicha while offering a refined and accessible drinking experience.会员笔记 10 条

Playing around with large teapot. Good for heicha, but next time I’ll choose something more forgiving like liu bao!
Excellent tea, it was smooth sweet with a satisfying bite of smoke and enjoyable instringency. Complexe flavour where dreid fruits meets caramel and forest.

This is a long lasting companion for many sessions, but after steep #5 minerality overcomes everything - and I get bored.
Very nice tea, it impressed me with both the Chinese lucky coin tea cake shape and taste profiles. As the leaves release from the compressed coin, taste complexity comes.
Had a great time drinking this again with tea club!

1 coin, broken in half and gently widened in the middle. 150ml thick ceramic Korean pot, only used about 100 to 110ml of water. Boiling RO water anointed with TeaCurious' Autumn Minerals, but only 0.5ml of each, not 1ml as recommended. Rinse than 7 steeps. - Light amber in color - Dull color in 1st steep, subsequent steeps brought out it's brilliance. - very cloudy throughout all steeps - plesant aroma - pleasant but brief and faint fragrance - significant houyun - lasted 6 steeps and depleted, drastically, on the 7th I'm not too fond of the taste, especially the 1st and 2nd steep. It's a tad too green. But taste is such a subjective topic... If I like the taste and/or it tastes like that type of tea "should"... I skip the subject. Interesting... 🤔 Evaluating the tea as a whole and not each steep, I'd say this tea is quite comfortable. Interesting? Why interesting? It's the warmth when compared to the qi. Warmth, qi, same thing? Sure... Why not. Anyway... The tea's warmth goes straight back to the throat and like swallowing a sword, the warmth go right to the belly without spreading horizontally. I can feel my breath, my lungs, the very air that gives me like. But! The warmth is NOT in ANYway presant in my lungs! This quite, I remember experiencing only 2 or 3 times, and both with a green tea! 🤔 And comfortable, so much so that I get sleepy... Sleepy in my eyes, sleepy in my neck, sleepy in my shoulders, sleepy in the mind. Sadly or rather luckily, the sleepiness, and yes i mean as in falling asleep, is short lived... 3 or 4 minutes after the swollow... I am back to the state I was in before I sipped. All in all, I give it only 3 stars. The taste issue I have with it is marginal, but the soup was cloudy and I could feel it in my mouth. I'm still unaware what exactly courses cloudiness... 🤔 Happy to drink again... Not sure I'd purchase
Really nice material, and opens up a ton (although it takes a while). Starts out gentle and sweet, and then arrives in punchy, slightly smokey glory.

Really nice material, and opens up a ton (although it takes a while). Starts out gentle and sweet, and then arrives in punchy, slightly smokey glory. Has some sheng character in later steeps, with some intense honey fragrance on the leaves. Will probably be buying some more of this one. This was a fun one! Really tasty.
Drinking this tea is like entering the woods, leaving bright notes to meet more complex and deep nuances.

A very pleasant tea that started sweet, but grew in complexity and savoriness in later steeps.

0 TDS distilled water with TeaCurious Original recipe to make 50 TDS water. A very pleasant tea that started sweet, but grew in complexity and savoriness in later steeps. Rating Criteria: 0.5 - bad, flavorless, or worse very astringent, teabag 1.0 - mostly bad, flavorless, most teabag tea 1.5 - not good, but maybe something to like 2.0 - slightly disappointed, not my kind of tea, but still can appreciate it - probably the worst rating I would give a loose leaf tea (at least one that hasn't turned bad) 2.5 - mixed feelings, like it, but there is something off about it I don't like 3.0 - good, I like it but nothing stand out about it or a very good tea with one critique that holds me back - probably the highest I would give a teabag tea 3.5 - very good, a tea that I was very happy to have but content with what I had, wouldn't seek it out for additional purchase 4.0 - great, very happy with the experience, would seek out for purchase, but only occasionally 4.5 - a favorite, one I love and want very often 5.0 - life will be very sad without it, reserved only for my favorites (roasted Tie Guan Yin & Dancong Red), room for more hopefully

Qian Liang Cha (千两茶) belongs to the Huajuan Cha (花卷茶) category, one of Anhua’s most distinctive and technically demanding dark teas. Developed during the Qing Dynasty, it was designed for long-distance trade, with its unique log-shaped compression allowing for long-term preservation and gradual transformation over time.会员笔记 6 条

Although it's not my thing, I enjoyed it, it tastes like oversteeped green tea with smoky tobacco notes. However, I like Hei Zhuan more than this.
A very interesting tea, but not something I’d necessarily seek out. Tastes like a smoked green tea, with nice returning sweetness in the later steeps.

I like the smell of the leaves more than the taste. A good tea, just not a flavor profile I tend to be looking for! Brewing in a pot really helped this time. It melded the flavors in a way that really improved things. Had a lovely time drinking this with Sunday tea club! Still not really my thing, but definitely recommend brewing this in a teapot instead of a gaiwan- much better experience than last time.
Limited notes on this tea but I really enjoyed its complexity and nuance even at such a young age. I expect this will be a tea that will age beautifully.
I enjoyed this one, but less than the other things this month. Very green tea/matcha in a way, with some smoke on the nose.

Tian Jian (天尖) belongs to the “Three Jian” category of Anhua dark tea, a designation that has been preserved since the Qing Dynasty. It was first developed in the Qianlong period (18th century) when Shanxi and Anhua tea merchants used tender, semi-processed dark tea to create lightly compressed, basket-packed tea.会员笔记 7 条

Visiting my family for Easter, I brought home some good stuff to share with my parents. We had a few cups of Dragon ball Tian Jian, from the February tea club.

Visiting my family for Easter, I brought home some good stuff to share with my parents. We had a few cups of Dragon ball Tian Jian, from the February tea club. They liked it a lot, even if they couldn't resist adding some sugar to the cup... But in the end it's OK, as long as they drink something different from fancy teabags!
Although the taste doesn't change much, it's mostly smoky, I enjoyed it.
This was a super fun tea session with Pascal & co. That being said, not really thing in terms of tea. Very smoke forward throughout. Pretty sweet, with a savory note beneath.

Gong fu Smells a bit smokey.
Subtly smoky. With an interesting buttery mouthfeel, at the beginning. But then it turned thick and mineral and I lost interest.
Ok - just mostly smoky, but not overwhelming. Not much else to say about it. I like it, but nothing standout.

Hei Zhuan (黑砖), or "Black Brick" tea, is a relatively modern innovation within Anhua dark tea, first developed in 1939 as a durable, tightly compressed tea for long-term aging and transport. Hei Zhuan undergoes deep fermentation, resulting in a mellow, full-bodied flavor with earthy, woody undertones.会员笔记 6 条

Slightly smoky, very similar to a rustic raw puerh. Still figuring out how to brew this super densely compressed tea. Definitely Heicha for Raw Puerh drinkers!
Trying first Anhua dark tea. I enjoyed it, it has balanced both earthy, woody, smoky and sweet, fruity taste profiles.
I really like this tea. Nicely balanced, sweet, some sheng puerh character with just the right amount of smoke.

I really like this tea. Nicely balanced, sweet, some sheng puerh character with just the right amount of smoke. Really enjoyed this tea. Just a touch smokey (much more on the nose), milk chocolate finish on the earlier brews. Accidentally brewed for five mins on the second steep, and turned out great. Haven’t tried a ton of Anhua dark teas, but so far this is my favorite!
Mildly sweet like dried apricots, very long lasting, not particularly evolving. It gets better with longer steeps. I appreciated the licorice aftertaste of the first infusions.
